Strengthen relations between the Paola area and Uruguay, creating new opportunities for collaboration in the sectors of culture, economy, trade and territorial promotion. This was the central theme of the institutional meeting held in the “Lo Giudice” Municipal Council Hall between the mayor of Paola, Roberto Perrotta, and Alfredo Sguglio, honorary consul of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay in Calabria.
The president of the city council, Emira Ciodaro, and doctor Orsola Sguglio, sister of the consul, also participated in the meeting.
The recognition to Orsola Sguglio
During the meeting, an award was given to Orsola Sguglio for the professional activity carried out as head of the Emergency-Urgency sector of Paola.
A certificate of esteem for the competence, dedication and sense of responsibility demonstrated daily in serving the community and protecting the health of citizens.
Cultural and economic exchanges
The comparison made it possible to delve deeper into the possible initiatives to be developed jointly, enhancing the historical and human ties between Calabria and Uruguay, where there is a significant community of Italian origin.
Among the hypotheses that emerged include the promotion of cultural exchanges, public events, institutional collaborations and opportunities for discussion between economic operators. Particular attention was paid to building stable relationships between local authorities, associations, universities and production entities in the two territories.
During the meeting, Uruguay’s role within Mercosur was also recalled. The strengthening of relations with the South American country could represent for Paola and Calabria a gateway to new cultural, institutional and economic collaborations with the entire area.
Mayor Perrotta expressed the municipal administration’s willingness to give continuity to the path started, considering international cooperation a useful tool for expanding development opportunities and increasing the visibility of the city.
The meeting thus marked the start of an institutional path which, in the coming months, could translate into concrete projects and initiatives between Paola, Uruguay and the other countries in the Mercosur area.
