Eighteen people, including seven minors, were rescued this morning after being stuck in the area of the former Lake Costantino, in the municipal area of San Luca and in the heart of the Aspromonte National Park.
The group, made up of young people belonging to an association from another region, had reached the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Montagna in Polsi the previous day.
The alarm, received by the operations center of the Reggio Calabria fire brigade, triggered the emergency device and the coordination of the various teams involved in the searches.
The fire brigade helicopter was also in action
The VF142 helicopter of the Catania fire brigade flight department also took part in the operations. The firefighters of the Bianco detachment and the carabinieri of the San Luca station also intervened in the area, engaged in assistance, coordination and safety activities.
The collaboration between Alpine Rescue, firefighters, carabinieri and local institutions made it possible to reach the group and conclude the intervention without consequences for the people involved.
The return to the town centre
All members of the group were rescued and accompanied to the town of San Luca. Here they received assistance and refreshment thanks to the welcome guaranteed by the Municipality and the local parish.
