In the Regional Council of Calabria the PD group will vote against the Economic and Financial Document approved by the Council and against the introduction of the figure of the “substitute” councilor envisaged by a law proposal from the centre-right majority. This was announced at a press conference in Lamezia Terme by the members of the same regional group of the Democratic Party, which expressed a negative opinion on the action of the president of the Calabria region, Roberto Occhiutoand the center-right. “After 3 years of government in Calabria there is no miracle,” said the regional councilors of the Democratic Party. Therefore, no to the Region’s Economic and Financial Document, announced the dem group leader Domenico Bevacquabecause – he explained – “a vision is missing in the Defr, and the centre-right’s inability to address and resolve the critical issues of Calabria emerges”.
It was to go into detail Raffaele Mammolitiwho already expressed the opposition of the Democratic Party in the Budget Commission of the Regional Council: «After three years they give us a Calabria on its knees, with largely negative indicators. Among other things – Mammoliti remarked – this situation will be aggravated by further cuts in the national budget law which will deduct a further 53 million from Calabria. Furthermore, free spending is decreasing for the first time in years: previously it was almost 13% of the entire budget, now it has fallen to 10%. Then there is a clear discrepancy between the social budget of the regional INPS, which speaks of 519,000 employed, and the data that the centre-right reports in the Defr and which would refer to Istat and the Bank of Italy, data which would speak of 539,00 employed : a discrepancy of 20,000 units that must be investigated.”
Furthermore, the PD group in the Region – added Bevacqua – «is against the introduction of the figure of the substitute regional councillor, which we believe is a political alchemy to settle the balance within the centre-right and not a serious response to the problems of Calabrians, who are waiting for answers to the economic and social difficulties they experience every day. As far as we are concerned – the group leader of the Democratic Party argued to the Region – we are instead interested in a reform such as the split vote, which is the right tool to allow the Calabrians to freely choose both the president of the Council and the regional councilor”. In addition to Bevacqua and Mammoliti, the other regional councilors of the Democratic Party also participated in the press conference Amalia Bruni, Ernesto Alecci, Franco Iacucci and Giovanni Muraca.
