Frontal attack on the regional government and call for unity on the progressive front. The regional secretary of the Sicily Democratic Party, Anthony Barbagallo, speaking today in Caltagirone at the two-day “Ti amo Sicilia” study center, harshly criticized the president of the Region Renato Schifani and the minister Antonio Tajani.
«Tajani and Schifani, what a couple. If for the former international law exists but up to a certain point, it is obvious that for Schifani the moral question in Sicily does not exist at all. And in fact for him Sicily would be experiencing a magical moment”, stated Barbagallo. “It’s a shame that his council and its majority have one suspect a day, while corruption is rampant, healthcare is sinking and all the reference indices see Sicily bringing up the rear.”
The progressive front and the crux of alliances
Hence the appeal to the centre-left. «For all these reasons the progressive front must be ready. The first issue to address is that of alliances. The Democratic Party will do it starting from the discussion in the bodies, without escaping forward and without the race for newspaper headlines. There we will see each other, talk and discuss strategies and possibilities for broadening the field.”
The De Luca theme and the autonomy of the territories
Barbagallo also returned to the relationship with Cateno De Luca and the South Call North movement. «In the past the Democratic Party opened up, with the vote of the regional management, to alliances in Carlentini and Licata: two experiments with different outcomes, however the result of a comparison, which were then not followed up also due to the dynamics that evolved in the Ars».
The dem secretary recalled the position taken by the provincial federation of Messina. «The position of the Messina Democratic Party which raised questions related to the coherence and respect for some principles and values with respect to De Luca and his movement is from yesterday».
Reiterating the value of the work carried out by federations and clubs, Barbagallo underlined that the Messina federation “will continue its study and will have autonomy of choice, adopting a mature and informed decision”. But he also clarified that «it must first and foremost be Cateno De Luca himself who convinces the Democratic Party, aligning himself with the objectives of the entire progressive camp and making a true and radical opposition to Schifani and the center-right, without leaps backwards or last-minute U-turns».
The centre-right
“The centre-right coalition exists and I believe it is quite competitive. I don’t think there are any preclusions towards those who want to write an electoral program that can have as its cornerstones the return of young people, the attention towards the infrastructural gup which is there for all to see. There is no preclusion, in fact the doors are open at least on my part”. This was declared by the president of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Gaetano Galvagno, of Fdi.
