The procedure for modifying the review document of the hospital network, necessary to allow the maintenance of the Taormina Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Centre, has been completed by the regional government. In today’s council meeting, the definitive green light was given to the aggregation of the Taormina structure to the adult cardiac surgery of the Rodolico-San Marco University Hospital in Catania, having obtained the favorable opinion of the sixth ARS commission. The Schifani government has adhered to the indications suggested by the Ministries of Health and Economy, for the maintenance of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Center officially included in the Region’s hospital network for the first time. The documentation can then be sent to Rome, in compliance with the times required by the ministries.

«Thanks to everyone’s work, it was possible to take this further step forward towards the new hospital network – states the regional councilor for Health, Daniela Faraoni – while awaiting the final approval of the Ministry of Health and the Mef, which were very strict on the documentation supporting our request to maintain the Taormina structure in derogation of ministerial decree 70 of 2015. A rule which provided for only one pediatric heart surgery, identified at the Civic Hospital of Palermo from the previous hospital network. We reiterate that the interest of the Schifani government is the maintenance of both pediatric cardiac surgery facilities operating in Sicily, Palermo and Taormina. A commitment that we are maintaining with perseverance and diligence to protect families and young patients.”
