The gong is 8 months away. But there are departments stuck at a standstill. And so the latest budget of the expenditure of the Pnrr funds recorded a red alert figure: out of one billion and 900 million at its disposal, the Region spent just 510 million (26%) and reported even less to Brussels (7%).
The risk of a flop, that is, of losing resources, has never been so high, given that the deadline for completing all 3,557 projects agreed with Brussels is set for the end of June 2026. And it is no coincidence that President Renato Schifani has already convened the control room that monitors the spending trend for next Thursday.
There, solutions will be identified to reverse the trend. But in the meantime, the official data shows administrations that have spent nothing, or almost nothing. The Agriculture department has a budget of 23 million and 694 thousand euros but has spent just 626 thousand euros (2.6%).
