On May 29th the port of Gioia Tauro returns to the center of the mobilization against war and the global war supply chain. The Calabria Coordination for Palestine has called a demonstration in front of the Calabrian airport for 5pm, joining the general strike for Palestine and against the war promoted by the Young Palestinians of Italy and supported by trade union, social and political organizations throughout the country. At 6.30 pm, on the San Ferdinando seafront, a press conference will be held “to relaunch the fight against the war supply chain and the war economy”.
«War out of our ports» is the slogan chosen for a day that intertwines international solidarity and radical criticism of the logistical role of large commercial hubs in the contemporary war system. The statement released by the organizers states that “ports cannot be the rear of war” and that “Gioia Tauro cannot be treated as a simple neutral infrastructure within a global economy that transports weapons, profits, exploitation and death”.
