«In just two years of government, Sicily has grown beyond all expectations. This is certified by the Bank of Italy which indicates a higher increase in GDP than in other regions. This means that we have worked well but also that there is a solid and structured production and entrepreneurial system: this is a basic element that has allowed the liberal policy, implemented since the start of this legislature, to emphasize this growth”. The President of the Region said it, Renato Schifanispeaking in Palermo at Villa Igiea at the Confindustria Young Entrepreneurs meeting entitled “Finish to begin”. «The political action of my government – he added – will continue to look at the business world as the central fulcrum of economic and employment development. We are focusing on simplifying administrative activity and in this sense we have reformed the CTS for environmental assessments, with new rules and more streamlined procedures to ensure adequate and timely responses, allowing companies to direct their investment choices having certain deadlines. I like to underline as an example of efficiency in favor of companies the activity of Irfis, a flagship of the Region, which is currently managing the procedure to obtain a 50 percent reduction in interest on Non mortgages in fact, it is enough to have the resources but you also need to know how to spend them well and quickly”. The president recalled the agreement with Webuild for the training and subsequent hiring of young Sicilians and the government’s commitment “to reform the training sector, with the aim of making it more adequate to the demands of the world of work”. «My liberal political history – continued Schifani – has taught me how important it is to compare and find points of synthesis with social categories, entrepreneurs, the world of professions and, in Parliament, also with the opposition, putting aside reservations and prejudices, looking at the common interest. I believe in political dialectics and in listening to those who think differently from me: never create walls and trenches, otherwise you won’t grow. I accepted, for example, the useful suggestion of Michele Catanzaro, group leader of the Democratic Party at the Ars, to reactivate the spas of Sciacca and Acireale, a project that convinced me and on which we have been working tirelessly for months now, having identified both the financial resources, 90 million euros from the cohesion agreement, and the solutions to the critical issues that have so far prevented its relaunch. I am convinced that, by the end of the legislature, we will be able to reopen them and create a large spa tourism hub, with enormous benefits for the two territories.” Schifani concluded his speech by citing the recent approval of the waste plan which «now allows us to move on to the concrete phase of building waste-to-energy plants, a now irreversible process that will definitively archive the landfill season».
