Will this undoubted lack, desired or not, influence the jury assessment or was the hearing sufficient to clarify the financial aspects? In the city of eternal divisions, it is the candidacy for the Italian capital of culture 2027 to create new tensions. It was enough, to open the crack, a relief that emerged lasting the presentation to the Ministry of Wednesday morning: In the “Heart of the Mediterranean” dossier there is very little talk of the economic part. The data, however, were illustrated in his speech by Luisa Nepode, manager of the Government Bodies and Staff of the Municipality. Will it be enough? The answer is inevitably entrusted to the Commission, which has asked questions and took notes in view of the verdict that will be formalized by March. But still goes, the Roman appointment can be filed as a success in the sign of the sense of belonging, of pride, the ability to look forward with enthusiasm.
The numbers
After the intervention of the mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà, nephew illustrated, briefly, the process of potential transformation of the city to the Italian capital of culture. “Our fundamental goal – he said – is to do the cultural park in the center of the Mediterranean of Reggio Calabria. For this transformation to be carried out, the Municipality has already started working and investing: they have already been allocated, and largely engaged, over 250 million euros for structural interventions aimed at regenerating the places of culture and creating new ones; But investments are also referred to the superstructural system, over 120 million euros of which more than 100 intended for accessibility and functional mobility throughout the municipal area “. After talking about the economic sustainability of the cultural project of 2027 – over 8 million euros intended to increase in 2026 thanks to the mechanisms of flexibility and rewarding of the community funds already in use of the Municipality – the manager introduced the activities planned, for each of which the events were illustrated with the interventions of the director of the Archaeological Museum in Fabrizio Sudano, of the President of the Chamber of Commerce Antonio Tramontana and the Director of the State Archive of the State Archive Angela Puleio. In detail, the 251 million of infrastructure interventions (however already on the field, beyond the outcome of the candidacy) are divided as follows: 129,244,090 euros for interventions aimed at creating and/or building of places intended for cultural (in the cauldron, among other things, there are 121 million for the Museum of the sea); 102,410,468 euros for accessible and sustainable mobility (including cycle and cycle paths); 11,218,843.73 euros for interventions aimed at implementing the infrastructure apparatus, connected to cultural activities; 9.104,060.46 euros for interventions aimed at expanding employment, enhancing the specificities of excellence and territoriality.
