The fire that engulfed an area of the Mortara agri-food center the day before yesterday is certainly not the first and the risk that it may not be the last is almost a certainty. The story highlights the need to find a solution for the structure, which represents the most important investment of the “Reggio Decree” and has turned into a colossal flop. The issue has dragged on for fourteen years amidst disputes and judicial battles without any definitive answers being given to the operators.
The disputes that have marked the history of the integrated project since the expropriations (which began in 1998), which was supposed to represent the most important work of the Reggio Decree, continue to block important resources and at the same time also hold the possible development of an entire supply chain hostage. Which, instead of taking off, continues to see market shares eroded. Since the time of the prefectural commission this has been going on without real progress. The president of the 4th district, Giuseppe Cantarella, has taken action, calling for the area to be reclaimed and for a tightening of controls.
