One hundred violators sanctioned in just ten days. It is the first assessment of the “Piazza Pulita” operation traced by the mayor of Reggio Calabria, Francesco Cannizzaro, through a story published on social media on the eve of the installation of the new city council.

The mayor, connecting from Palazzo San Giorgio, explained that he was awaiting the arrival of the city councilors summoned to organize the work of the inaugural session scheduled for tomorrow, taking the opportunity to take stock of the activity to combat waste abandonment.

The balance of the first ten days of “Piazza Pulita”

Cannizzaro illustrated the numbers recorded since the start of the extraordinary cleaning and control operation of the territory.

«Do you know how many transgressors we caught and sanctioned in 10 days? Exactly 100. Exactly 100 violators caught and sanctioned plus two reported for transferring special waste and even one was an imbecile who was caught and arrested because he set fire to waste in the southern area of ​​the city.»

«There is still a lot to do»

The mayor underlined how the results obtained represent a first signal, while recognizing that the path to solving the critical issues of the waste collection system is still long.

«I believe that these are absolutely significant data, aware that there is still a lot, a lot to do, especially on strengthening and making waste collection operational which is very incomplete and we are absolutely aware of this.»

The Municipality’s line: «Zero tolerance»

In his speech, Cannizzaro reiterated the direction chosen by the municipal administration in terms of combating indiscriminate waste abandonment, confirming that the checks will continue.

«But in the meantime I wanted to forcefully reiterate the concept from which it all started. Zero tolerance.»

Tomorrow the first municipal council

Before updating citizens on the results of the “Piazza Pulita” operation, the mayor had announced that he would be at Palazzo San Giorgio to coordinate the final organizational aspects in view of the installation session of the new city council, called for tomorrow.
