Reggio Calabria enters the history of world volleyball. In fact, the match between Italy and Germany in the FIPAV Cup Men Elite was scheduled at PalaCalafiore. The first set sets the world record for first set length since the Rally Point System was introduced. The partial after more than an hour and a half ended with the score 66-64 in favor of the Germans after an exhausting chase between the two teams in search of the two points necessary to close the set from when 25 points were reached onwards.
The record has held since 2013
The previous record belonged to the Korean Air Jumbos – Rush & Cash match valid for the South Korean championship, which ended 56-54 on 26 November 2013. A few weeks ago a new record was recorded in matches between national teams, with the Argentina-Poland match finishing 50-48. Record demolished by the first set of the match played in Reggio Calabria.
