Giovanni Muraca, Massimo Canale and Domenico Battaglia will be the three candidates who will compete in the “Campo largo” primaries on March 15th to win the candidacy for mayor of Reggio Calabria.

Muraca, former regional councilor and point of reference for Italia Viva-Casa Riformista, comes from a political background in the Democratic Party; Canale, criminal lawyer and former Democratic city councilor, is supported by the Onda Orange civic movement; Battaglia, the current acting mayor, is the official candidate of the Democratic Party.

Battaglia’s presentation

Battaglia presented his candidacy during a public event in the presence of the regional councilor Giuseppe Falcomatà, the regional secretary of the Democratic Party, senator Nicola Irto, and the provincial secretary Giuseppe Panetta.

«Today the whole party is here with me and I thank them. I have become the point of synthesis of these primaries which will represent a moment of great involvement and mobilization”, declared Battaglia, speaking of a path shared with the national, regional, provincial and municipal levels of the party.

Regarding the elections of 24 and 25 May, the Dem candidate said he was “optimistic”, claiming the results of the twelve years of government of the center-left and asking citizens to trust in the work done.

The role of primaries

For Nicola Irto the primaries will be “an important moment of participation and discussion to recover citizens’ disaffection towards politics”. Giuseppe Falcomatà invited the militants to discuss with the city the results achieved and the critical issues still to be addressed, with the aim of building a shared future project.
