The former regional councilor Domenico Creazzo was acquitted of the charge of political-mafia electoral exchange. The sentence was issued a few minutes ago in the second appeal trial celebrated in Reggio Calabria. The brother of the former mayor of Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte (defended by lawyers Francesco Petrelli and Pasquale Condello), Antonino Creazzo (lawyers Vincenzo Maiello and Giuseppe Milicia), and Domenico Alvaro (lawyer Cesare Placanica) were also acquitted for the same charge, for whom however the sentence of 20 years and three months of imprisonment for mafia association remains unchanged.

The second appeal process became necessary after the ruling of the Court of Cassation which had annulled with postponement the 10-year prison sentences of the Creazzo brothers and upheld a total of five appeals. Also acquitted were Bruno Modafferi (defended by lawyers Marco Gemelli and Domenico Putrino), who had been sentenced to 13 years in the first appeal trial, and Giuseppe Crea (lawyer Antonino Tripodi). The sentence for Rocco Laurendi (lawyers Antonio Saffioti and Emanuele Genovese) was redetermined at 1 year and six months and Carmine Quartuccio (lawyers Tripodi and Luca Cianferoni), who was granted generic mitigating circumstances.
