The Metropolitan Council of Reggio Calabria, meeting at Palazzo Alvaro, chaired by the metropolitan mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà with the support of the general secretary, Umberto Nucara, approved a series of proposals during the last session, including the 2026-2028 financial forecast budget scheme and a series of changes to the budget for extraordinary maintenance for confiscated properties.

The chamber also gave a favorable opinion to the activation of extracurricular internships at the Territory and Environmental Protection department. Green light also for the implementation of extraordinary maintenance interventions on the metropolitan road network. Also under discussion is the recognition of some off-balance sheet debts. To complement the Agenda, the Metropolitan Council also approved the proposal to join the association ‘Towards the metropolitan community foundation’ with the approval of the draft Statute.

The report on the budget forecast was carried out in the classroom by the managing director, Giuseppe Ranuccio, who confirmed “the economic stability and solidity of the organisation, as also highlighted by the auditors. The commitment to the cornerstones such as: education, roads and heritage remains unchanged – he added -“. Councilors Giuseppe Marino, Armando Neri, Domenico Mantegna and Salvatore Fuda also spoke on the point and said “By now the metropolitan city has accustomed us to respecting the deadlines in the approval of the budget forecast. In reality, this is the first step in the Council, because we will have the opportunity, in these weeks, to involve the territory, hoping that the metropolitan conference, in which all the municipalities can take part, will be attended precisely to illustrate the accounting document which is the soul of the political and administrative action of the Institution”.

Particularly satisfied, at the end of the session, was the metropolitan mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà: “We are very happy to have approved this budget – he said – I was particularly keen to leave my role as metropolitan mayor before leaving my role as metropolitan mayor. It is the main planning document of the organisation, the forecast. I thank all the councilors who participated in the council meeting who, even with their favorable vote, allowed the authority to approve, as every year, the forecast budget by the end of December, allowing all the planning to be starting regularly from January 1st. These are resources – concluded the mayor – for activities that improve services for citizens, with respect to the prerogatives of the metropolitan city: school buildings, sports facilities, welfare, road maintenance, public works”.
