The work of hydraulic arrangement of the Gallico river north of the city may be significantly accelerated after the exclusion of the environmental impact assessment procedure decided by the technical structure of the Region. The project presented by a company representing the Government’s extraordinary commissioner for hydrogeological instability in Calabria.
The planned works fall within the Gallico river and are aimed, on the one hand, at making the hydraulic safety of the road structure (Gallico-Gambarie road) which lies on the bed of the river and, on the other, at mitigating the impacts of the infrastructure itself on the environment. «The intervention stretch extends for approximately 4 km in the stretch between Mulini di Calanna and Santo Stefano d’Aspromonte, along which the stream overcomes a difference in altitude of approximately 200 meters (from an altitude of 450 m to an altitude of 250 m), with an average slope of 5%. Along this stretch the valley is crossed by the GallicoGambarie, which allows the connection with the ski resort of Gambarie.
