Maxi seizure by the Local Police of Reggio Calabria as part of the “Safe Halloween” operation, aimed at protecting consumers and, in particular, children in view of the holiday at the end of October.

Following a targeted inspection activity, the agents identified a commercial establishment in the southern outskirts of the city, managed by a citizen of the People’s Republic of China regularly residing in Italy, within which over 2,500 items that did not comply with safety regulations were found.

The goods – including masks, cosmetics, fabrics, gadgets and Halloween-themed accessories – lacked the CE marking and the mandatory indications on how to use and potential risks. Many of the products, intended for children, also had easily detachable and ingestible parts, considered potentially dangerous to health.

All the irregular material was seized, while the owner of the business was referred to the judicial authorities for commercial fraud. He is also charged with administrative sanctions for a total of 3,000 euros, in violation of the Consumer Code. At the same time, the local police requested the intervention of the Territorial Labor Inspectorate, to verify the regularity of the positions of the numerous employees present at the time of the check, all identified during the operations.

The operation is part of the controls arranged by the local police command to guarantee safety and legality in city trade, with particular attention to products intended for children and periods of increased consumption.
