The Dante Alighieri University has started the bureaucratic process for the election of the new rector, a position vacant following the resignation of Fulvio Gismondi. “However, the situation present in the composition of the board of directors raises more than one doubt”, underlines the metropolitan coordinator of Fratelli d’Italia, Ersilia Cedro, according to whom “as a result of an order from the Court of Reggio Calabria last December, a new and different board of directors was established in the University”.
Cedro continues: «The ordinance constitutes in fact a provision of a precautionary nature, and the dispute is still open and will be the subject of further hearings. The professors’ component was not recognized in the board of directors, a very singular fact, since the prerogatives of the academic component are no longer present. But above all, within the board of directors, a member designated as representative of the metropolitan city, Giuseppe Falcomatà, is retained, although he no longer holds any role within it as he is no longer mayor of the city and currently designated to another role, that of regional councilor. Frankly – insists Cedro – the current situation is incomprehensible given that, by statute, the Calabria Region appoints a member to the University board of directors without however having any right to vote, while the lawyer. Falcomatà, who has already been a regional opposition councilor for months, maintains his place on the board of directors with the right to vote, although he no longer holds the position of mayor of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria”. And again: «The problem of a potential conflict of interest also and above all arises by virtue of the fact that the Calabria Region provides sums to the organization and whoever has the right to vote within the board of directors contributes to allocating those sums with their vote».
