The prominent candidate of the center-left, Anna Laura Orricooffered a reading of the electoral defeat that does not speak of rejection of the “wide field,” but rather of one “Difficulty in making it clear” The proposal of the progressive coalition due to the restricted times.
Asked on the outcome of the vote, Orrico rejected the idea of a structural failure of the alliance. “Look, more than talking about rejection I would maybe speak of one difficulty in making the center -left proposal understand in such a short time“he said.
Running against time: a year late
Orrico highlighted how the sudden convocation of the elections penalized the progressive forces, which expected to vote for a year late. “I tell you with frankness, in Calabria we had to go to vote in a year. The progressive forces would have had all the time to organize not only the political proposal, the lists of candidates and also the narration of Calabria that we would have liked to offer to the Calabrians,” he explained.
The decision of President Occhiuto to resign and re-establish himself on July 31st put the center-left in front of an almost impossible company. “We did not have this time,” Ortrico admitted, however, underlining the speed with which the coalition organized itself: “Yet in record time, because I want to remember it, the president Occhiuto resigned and re -established on July 31 and we, progressive forces, on 20 August we had set up the lists and a shared program.”
The consequence was that the candidates “had had little time to make themselves known on the territory“hindering the full diffusion of the message.
Start from the opposition on key themes
Despite the defeat, Orrico said that the battle continues in the regional council. “We start from here, we will be ready and we will be in the regional council and we will try to strengthen this united opposition front“he promised.
The action of the “wide field” in the Council will focus on the key themes of their proposal, starting from strengthening of public health. “It is not possible to continue to give funding by subtracting beds from public health in favor of private health,” said Orrico.
Other priorities will be the right to education and the right to workessential to counter emigration. “We must guarantee the right of education to everyone and also the right to work, in order to avoid that many Calabrians continue to escape,” he concluded, reiterating his commitment to make constructive and determined opposition.
