News coming for mothers and fathers who, following the end of a marriage or cohabitation, find themselves having to face the costs of new accommodation. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) has confirmed the start of the process for the publication, expected during the autumn, of the implementation notice for the rent bonus for separated and divorced parents. The measure provides for a financial contribution that can reach up to 500 euros per month (for a maximum of 6,000 euros per year) for a duration of 12 months.
WHO IS ENTITLED TO THE CONTRIBUTION: SEPARATE AND DIVORCEED PEOPLE
The measure is aimed at a specific audience of beneficiaries in conditions of economic and housing vulnerability. From the ministry’s indications it emerges that the audience involves both separated parents and divorced parents.
The main entry criteria include:
- Non-assigned parents: the measure is up to the parent who had to leave the family home, assigned to the other spouse or ex-partner.
- Dependent children: presence of at least one dependent child up to the age of 21.
- Rental contract: possession of a regular registered rental contract for the new property used as a main residence.
- Maintenance in order: compliance with the regularity in the payment of the maintenance allowance established by the judge for the children.
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS AND REAL ESTATE LIMITS
The provision sets precise limits to ensure that the resources – equal to 20 million euros per year for the three-year period – go to those in real difficulty:
- Income ceiling: the MIT drafts indicate a maximum overall income limit of around 35,000 euros.
- Rent coverage: the bonus will cover up to 50% of the monthly rent, up to a maximum of 500 euros per month.
- Limits on real estate: the applicant must not be the owner of other properties located within a radius of 50 kilometers from the previous family home.
- Non-cumulability: the contribution cannot be combined with other public aid dedicated to rent support.
WHEN AND HOW TO APPLY
The text of the implementing decree is currently being defined in consultation between the MIT and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for the definitive release of the funds.
The submission of applications will take place exclusively via an online telematic procedure which will be activated immediately after the formal publication of the notice in the Official Journal. The objective indicated by the Ministry is to allow requests to be forwarded in the autumn to start disbursement of the first checks by the end of the year, giving priority to the Regions with the greatest number of separations and the highest housing tension.
