In a supermarket in Corigliano, last Monday, what should have been a normal evening closing turned into a movie scene, with moments of fear and excitement.
According to what was reconstructed by the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Section of the Territorial Department of Corigliano Rossano – who operated under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Castrovillari, directed by the chief prosecutor Alessandro D’Alessio – a 35-year-old man, of non-EU origin and resident in Italy for some time, attempted to steal an expensive bottle of liquor from the supermarket shelves, hiding it under his shirt to evade police checks. earnings.
The gesture, quick but not enough, was noticed by the owners of the business thanks to the internal video surveillance system. When the suspect crossed the threshold of the store, one of the store managers met him outside to ask him to return the goods.
At that point, according to the investigative reconstruction, the man reacted violently, hitting the trader with kicks and punches so as not to give up the stolen goods. The scene did not go unnoticed: a passerby, noticing the fight, intervened to help the shopkeeper. But the situation quickly deteriorated.
The thirty-five-year-old, apparently cornered, pulled out a knife, threatening both men and forcing the passerby to hand over his mobile phone to him before attempting to escape. Precisely at those moments, a Carabinieri patrol was passing by near the supermarket, carrying out routine checks. The immediate testimonies of the two victims allowed the military to quickly identify and stop the alleged perpetrator, who was found not far from the scene of the events.
During the search, the Carabinieri found both the stolen mobile phone and the knife used to make the threats in his possession. The man’s physical characteristics and clothing perfectly matched the descriptions provided by witnesses. The thirty-five year old was thus arrested almost in flagrante delicto, considered seriously suspected of robbery, and taken to the Castrovillari prison, where he will remain awaiting validation of the provision.
