The Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria has handed over the works to the new contracting company for the functional restoration and safety of the SP 89 Dir SP 90 Caulonia road sections. A project much awaited by the area, as it has been off-limits to citizens for some time due to a major landslide on the ridge.

For the occasion, the metropolitan deputy mayor was present on site Carmelo Versacethe metropolitan councilor Salvatore Fudathe mayor of Caulonia Francesco Cagliuso together with the president of the municipal council Agnese Panettathe technicians of the metropolitan city and the technicians of the contracting company.

The project, born with Civil Protection funds, then passed into the Pnrr funds for a total amount of 500,000.00 euros. The intervention, whose completion time is estimated at approximately 180 days, involves bituminizing and making the affected road section safe, restoring the ditches, installing 29 poles, 19 active tie rods on a foundation plate and 18 active tie rods integral with a wall, finally the positioning of 72 gabions to be assembled in two rows close to the damaged road edge.

“It will not be a simple restoration activity – said the metropolitan deputy mayor Versace – but of an intervention that will definitively secure that stretch of road, returning it to the entire community that has been waiting for it for some time. A fundamental and essential intervention – he added – to guarantee the restoration of traffic in this stretch of road in the locality of Ursini, a hamlet of the Municipality of Caulonia, which acts as a connection for many urban sites which at this moment are forced to take an alternative route longer to reach the different hamlets of the Municipality of Caulonia”. “Just think – Versace highlighted – that the school bus takes about 30 minutes longer to reach the children of the hilly villages, such as Ursini in this specific case, compared to the ordinary route”.

“The metropolitan city, following precise input from the mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà – concluded Versace – is paying the utmost attention to internal roads, trying to resolve the various difficulties encountered in the area in the short term, to protect citizens first and foremost and above all with a view to of a perspective that sees the repopulation of internal villages at the center of its mission”.
