It was a carabiniere off duty who foiled an attempted theft on the San Ferdinando seafront. The soldier, recently assigned to the local station, he noticed three young people busy removing the plastic platforms installed by the Municipality to allow access to the beachespecially to people with disabilities.

Suspicious of the boys’ behavior, the soldier immediately contacted the Station Commander to verify whether authorization had been granted to remove the platforms. Since there was no permit, he decided to keep an eye on the scene, while requesting the support of his colleagues on duty.

When the patrol arrived, three young people were stopped, discovering that part of the platforms had already been loaded onto a car. Among those arrested, one was found to be a minor. After being taken to the barracks to complete the procedures, the 11 platforms hidden in the vehicle were seized. The three young people, however, were reported for aggravated theft in competition and interruption of public service. This last crime was hypothesized because of the fundamental role of the platforms, which guarantee access to the beach even to people in wheelchairs.

The minor was entrusted to a family member, who intervened in the barracks. The intervention, made possible by the readiness of the soldier off duty, highlights once again the constant commitment of the Carabinieri in guaranteeing the safety and respect for the rights of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable groups.
