“What happened is a serious sign of the abandonment of the internal areas of Calabria, where the fragility of citizens clashes with delays and inefficiencies of the health system.”
This was stated by the M5S group leader in the Regional Council of Calabria, Elisa Scutellà, regarding the death of an 88-year-old in Longobucco (Cosenza), which occurred after a 68-day wait for a device that had been prescribed to him following a double surgery. «I would like first of all – states Scutellà – to express my closeness to the family for this painful loss. Continuity of care, fundamental to guarantee the continuation of care and prevent complications, cannot remain just a regulatory principle: it must be translated into concrete actions, especially for the most vulnerable people.”
An urgent question has been tabled
The 5 Star Region leader also announces that “an urgent question has been presented to ensure that all the necessary initiatives are activated to verify and ensure compliance with post-discharge health requirements”. «We can no longer accept – concludes Scutellà – that the citizens of the internal areas of Calabria remain alone in moments of greatest fragility. A concrete commitment from the Region is urgently needed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their place of residence, has the right to timely and adequate treatment.”
