North Korea blew up the northern parts of the inter-Korean road network that were no longer in use. This was reported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff Command in Seoul, adding that the detonation “occurred around noon”, in the Yonhap report. The move, announced in recent days, is a further one signal of the surge in tension between Seoul and Pyongyang.
In detail, North Korea destroyed some northern parts of the roads that connect it to the South, increasing bilateral tensions: some routes along the Gyeongui and Donghae lines around noon local time (5am in Italy), according to the Seoul military, close to the military demarcation line. Reflectively, the South’s armed forces reported that they were committed to “strengthening readiness” to respond to the most diverse scenarios, increasing surveillance on military activities above the 38th parallel.
The South Korean military fired some shots in response to the North’s detonations. This was reported by Yonhap, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff Command in Seoul.
