The Court of Catanzaro, First Criminal Section, presided over by Dr Beatrice Fogari, pronounced a sentence of 2 years’ imprisonment (suspended sentence) against a teacher of a nursery school in Marcellinara, in the province of Catanzaro, for the crime of mistreatment of the children she was supposed to look after in the nursery where she worked. The sentence comes at the end of a long hearing, at the end of which the Prosecutor, in the person of Dr Silvia Peru, had asked for the teacher to be sentenced to 5 months in prison, subject to reclassification of the fact as the less serious crime of abuse of means of correction or discipline.

Months earlier, the other teacher who had ended up on trial for the same facts had also been definitively convicted, at the end of the summary trial. According to investigations carried out by the Catanzaro Flying Squad, the mistreatment was recorded starting from January 2017. Numerous audio-visual recordings have been put on record to prove this. On several occasions from January 2017 onwards, the teachers allegedly subjected some young pupils “to acts of physical and psychological violencerequiring them not to tell their parents anything about the events that happened at school.”

The teacher, defended by the lawyer. Gennaro Palermowas also sentenced to compensation for damages (to be paid separately) in favor of the students who were civil parties with the lawyers Antonio Lomonaco and Stefania Mantelli, as well as the reimbursement of legal expenses paid in total at 16,000 euros.
