Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has called for sexual harassment to be made a nationwide crime after she was kissed and groped in the street. Sheinbaum, 63, was harassed as she greeted supporters near the presidential palace in Mexico City on Tuesday, on her way to a public event.

The images of the harassment went around the world and caused a storm in the country. «I filed a complaint regarding the harassment incident I experienced yesterday in Mexico City. It must be clear that, beyond being president, this is something that many women experience in the country and around the world; no one can violate our bodies and our personal space,” the president wrote on X. “We will examine legislation to make this crime punishable in all 32 states,” she added. “If I don’t report the crime, what condition will Mexican women remain in?” he declared.
