The 25 million offered by the Region is good, but it is not enough to resolve the critical issues that the sector is experiencing and therefore, while fishing also folds its arms, the truck strike continues to the bitter end.
This is, in short, the message delivered yesterday by the Sicilian owners during the press conference held at the port of Catania, the first after the stoppage of vehicles in the commercial ports of the island which began last Tuesday, to reiterate that the resources allocated by the Schifani government to mitigate the high cost of fuel, to be shared with fishermen and farmers, are few compared to the increase in boarding fees on ferries and the outlay of 100 million per year for the ETS, the EU tax on climate-changing emissions.
For this reason, the secretary of the Hauliers’ Committee, Salvatore Bella, points out, to reduce the costs of goods movement “we need the intervention of Minister Salvini, otherwise we will remain in car parks, while at the same time guaranteeing the transport of essential goods”.
