Fratelli d’Italia will change two councilors and send two women to the council in their place, both new entries to the Region. The DC is unlikely to return to government but this does not necessarily allow the MPA to increase its patrol. The two technicians are in the balance.
The reshuffle began, behind the scenes, during the votes on the Budget. And although it is not closed, it already allows us to identify favorites and (almost) losers in the race for a position as councilor.
The names of Ella Bucalo and Brigida Alaimo are highlighted in the president’s notebook. They are the (most popular) two new councilors of Fratelli d’Italia. And the choice will trigger a tetris involving other party leaders. Bucalo will leave the Senate to take Elvira Amata’s place at the Tourism Department. This will allow FdI to respect the principle of territorial representation (they are both from Messina) but above all it will free up a seat in Palazzo Madama. Where the first of the non-elected was Francesco Scarpinato in 2022, who at this point can leave the department of Cultural Heritage. In his place will come Brigida Alaimo, from Palermo, and current municipal budget councilor: this too is a position that will therefore be reassigned by Lagalla. Alaimo is very close to Carolina Varchi: the Palermo leader is among the voices most listened to by Giorgia Meloni and will thus enter the regional galaxy, balancing the weight of the Etna currents.
Elvira Amata’s exit is taken for granted as everyone predicts that she may be sent to trial for corruption: the decision is scheduled for January 13th.
