Sinner triumphs in Beijing, beating Medvedev in two sets in the final

Jannik Sinner won the ‘China Open’, the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, beating Daniil Medvedev, world no.3, with a score of 7-6, 7-6. The Italian achieved his first success in seven meetings with the Russian and won his ninth title on the ATP circuit. With yesterday’s victory in the semi-final over Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner has already secured fourth position in the ranking, right behind Medvedev.

“Thank you for making me win at least one match… We have had many battles in the past, especially this year: thanks for making me a better player, even in training”: he is addressing his opponent beaten in the final, Daniil Medvedev, the first thanks from Jannik Sinner after the triumph in Beijing in the China Open. «I worked a lot athletically, it’s very nice to share this moment with the team – added the 22-year-old tennis player from South Tyrol, fresh from the ATP number 4, in the awards ceremony – it’s a title that means a lot to me, I hope to be able to achieve other great results in this season”. Sinner does not shy away from thanking the Beijing public as well: «For me it was the first time in China and I didn’t expect so many people, even on the training pitches. You made me feel at home, you are fantastic.”
