A 26-year-old from the province of Reggio Calabria has been arrested and held responsible for aggravated theft against a Canadian traveler at the Strait of Reggio Calabria’s “Tito Minniti” airport on 14 October.

The intervention was carried out by agents of the Border Police Office, alerted after the report of the woman who, at the end of the security checks, had reported the disappearance of some personal effects placed in the appropriate trays for scanning.

From the immediate viewing of the video surveillance images, the operators identified a man who, taking advantage of a moment of distraction from the passenger, had taken possession of a smartwatch of a well-known brand and a brown leather belt, then quickly walked away towards the boarding gate of a flight bound for Turin.

Thanks to the timely intervention, the officers ordered the temporary suspension of the take-off procedures, thus managing to track down the young man already on board the aircraft. During the personal search, the police found the stolen objects inside a bag, which were returned to the rightful owner.

The 26-year-old, originally from Cinquefrondi, was arrested for aggravated theft and placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
