Renato Schifani learned of the arrest request for Cuffaro, the leaders of the DC and two big names in the regional sub-government while he was still at home, ready to go to Palazzo d’Orleans. And in the very few words dictated immediately, one can measure the level of the storm that has hit the center-right and the Region in general.
Unlike many other similar occasions, Schifani did not use any formula in the official press release to express the – classic as well as ritual – certainty that the suspects will be able to prove their innocence. The president was much more cautious. Almost glacial in preamble to trust in the judiciary by adding only a formal “the suspects will be able to demonstrate, in the appropriate places, their non-involvement in the objections raised by the Prosecutor’s Office”.
It is a position of rigor and distance. Which becomes worse in the afternoon when the intention filters through the Palace to remove as soon as possible, if there is no precautionary measure from the magistrates, both the manager of the ASP of Syracuse Alessandro Caltagirone and the head of the western Sicily reclamation consortium, Giovanni Tomasino.
