Also this year the New Year’s Eve of the City of Cassano All’Ionio is confirmed as one of the most successful in the Calabria Region and in the whole of Southern Italy. In fact, thousands of people invaded Piazza Frasca (formerly Piazza Municipio) for the fiery New Year’s Eve night which had as its super guest Fred De Palma. The singer from Turin, king of Reggaeton and Hip hop songs in Italy, who sang his greatest hits: from “D’estate non vale” to “Notte Cattiva” from “Una volta ancora” to “Paloma” up to the latest singles “Adrenalina”, “Melodia criminal” and “Mmh”.
Opening the evening was the group “I Want to Return to the 90s” with the largest 90s live show in Italy, a musical show whose members returned from the past to make the audience dance and warm up, made up of many young people and many families. A unique, incredible, exciting show with pieces by Gigi d’Agostino, Gabry Ponte, 883, Eiffel 65, Corona, Modjo: all the hits that have made the history of music mixed in one great night that brought together and entertained those born of three different generations.
Then it was the turn of the live performance of the performer who many now define as the king of Italian reggaeton who gave life to a show worthy of great occasions. The municipal administration led by mayor Giovanni Papasso had chosen Fred De Palma precisely because his name is a guarantee of success. And so it was: the singles in collaboration with the Spanish singer Ana Mena (“D’estate non vale” and “Una Once Again”) and subsequently with the Brazilian artist Anitta (Paloma) or the latest “Mmh” with Rose Villain have climbed – and continue to climb – all the charts, becoming real hits that the public in Piazza Frasca (formerly Piazza Municipio) was able to listen to and dance to on New Year’s Eve.
A wonderful evening which saw an involvement of the public like never before: first the “I Want to Return to the 90s” gave away gadgets and various material, stimulating continuous and constant interaction with the songs and characters who followed one another on stage. But two citizens of Cassano, Luigi and Agostino, were also able to “fight” with freestyle shots, rapping directly with Fred De Palma. Moments that both they and the entire Cassanese square are unlikely to forget. Closing the series of events in style was DJ Jonnypro from Cassano, who made the very hot and lively Piazza Cassanese dance until the first light of dawn.
“Once again – commented the mayor Giovanni Papasso, decidedly satisfied with the much work done and the great result achieved yesterday evening – Cassano confirms itself as a point of reference for major events. Today we can talk about a wonderful evening, perhaps the best and most attended since I have been mayor of this wonderful community. Everything worked perfectly: no public order problems, no security problems, even the municipal bureaucracy worked at its best. For this reason, from the stage in Piazza Frasca together with my municipal administration we thanked everyone, absolutely everyone who worked for more than a month to make this umpteenth event a success. When we took office in 2019 we wanted to inaugurate the tradition of celebrating New Year’s Eve in the square to bring smiles back to the people of Cassano because after the past years a change of gear was necessary. Today there has been a change: people come to us because our reputation has changed, the atmosphere has changed and, with a fitting joke, allow me to say that music has definitely changed. Now we must continue on this path: this is our resolution for 2025.”
