The analysis of the vote: the recovery in Reggio city and the affirmation in Locride
«Given an abstention of this size, even the victory and the percentages of the candidates – continues the PD – have a frankly relative value. The territory was called to the polls again, a few months before the municipal elections, for an unexpected consultation. Cannizzaro had announced that he would maintain his parliamentary mandate until his dismissal due to incompatibility. Then he chose to bring forward his resignation from the Chamber and this accelerated the calling of the by-elections. The vote was taken to assign a seat for a few months, until the end of the legislature, in a competition that the center-right used above all to consolidate its internal balance. The low participation shows how little this operation involved the Reggio community. We take note of the victory of Fabio Roscioli, which gained above all in the city of Reggio Calabria, where the long wave of the recent municipal elections and the strength of the municipal and regional political apparatus had an impact. Even in the capital, however, the centre-left – points out the PD – recovers ground, going from 24 to 36 percent in just three months. In the rest of the constituency the picture changes: the center-left was ahead in many municipalities of the province called to vote, with a great result in Siderno, with victory in large centers such as Locri, Roccella, Gioiosa, Bovalino and Villa San Giovanni. It is a significant result, obtained in a difficult competition and in a very short time. It’s a good statement that testifies to the quality of Frank Benedetto’s candidacy. We thank him for his availability, generosity and commitment. His personal and professional credibility – we continue to read – made it possible to conduct an authentic campaign, based on listening and on the concrete problems of the communities. These elections, net of certain choices of disengagement which will have to be responsibly addressed in the appropriate forums, demonstrate that a united centre-left with authoritative and rooted candidacies is competitive and can broaden its consensus even in the most complicated conditions. From this political and human heritage – is the conclusion – we must start again, continuing with the presence in the territories and strengthening the unity of the coalition”.
