Serious road accident this afternoon along the road that connects Rizziconi to Castellace, in Reggino. Around 5.30pm, for reasons still under investigation, a minicar and a Fiat Doblò collided head-on.
The minicar suffered the worst, as it crumpled following the violent impact. The Polistena Fire Brigade team intervened on site, coordinated by team leader Angelo Morello, who worked to extract the two young occupants of the vehicle from the sheets of metal. The minicar was literally “cut” by firefighters to extract the occupants.
The driver, a minor girl, immediately appeared in serious condition and was transported by air ambulance, in code red, to the Grand Metropolitan Hospital of Reggio Calabria. The passenger, a young man who had just turned 18, was also in code red and was transferred to the Polistena hospital.
The driver of the Fiat Doblò was also injured, rescued and transported to the same hospital with a yellow code.
The police intervened at the site of the accident to investigate and reconstruct the exact dynamics of the collision. Traffic slowed down during rescue operations and securing the area.
