The Calabrese offshoots of Vannacci’s “laboratory”

Faithful guardians of the orthodoxy professed by former general Roberto Vannacci and, at the same time, fascinated by the theories of Great Russia. An “army” entirely made in Calabria has been closing ranks for months to gain more space and attract consensus. With one goal (not officially declared): to found a right-wing party, detached from Fratelli d’Italia and Lega and set on more radical positions. The ideal references are known: on the one hand the high official elected to the Strasbourg Parliament in the ranks of Lega and who (perhaps) dreams of a right-wing movement all his own, on the other the adhesion to the theses supported in the Kremlin against the West, NATO, Ukraine.

To understand the “Vannacci phenomenon” we need to reconstruct the network of pro-Putinists. A network still “work in progress” and yet already identifiable through the memberships of the movement “The world upside down”, born around the theses supported in the famous book written by the former Army general against the “ideological dictatorship of dominant thought”. In the organizational chart of the association, needless to say, there is a lot of Calabria. Indeed, to tell the truth, Lamezia Terme is the capital of the followers of the new aspiring leader of the sovereignists. The common denominator is represented by the praise of Tsar Putin’s policies and an unconditional support for the theses supported by Vannacci. Among the most committed is certainly Vittorio Gigliotti, president of the association “Cantiere Laboratorio”, a think tank that in Lamezia has represented in recent years a source of inspiration for some far-right parties such as Forza Nuova and Fiamma Tricolore. Gigliotti is the head of the South of “Il Mondo al contrario” and is one of the leaders most listened to by Vannacci in these weeks of great activism around the country. It is no coincidence that the former general, again in recent months, has put Calabria at the top of the stages of the tour to present his book. Just as it is no coincidence the presentation, again in these parts, of another book “Morire per la Nato?”, written instead by Fabio Filomeni, lieutenant colonel, but above all president of “Il Mondo al contrario”.
In short, there is a lot of Calabria in the movement. The national secretary answers to the name of Bruno Spatara, former paratrooper of the Folgore and former secretary of Forza Nuova in the province of Catanzaro.
