The Calabria Region has assigned the Municipality of San Giovanni in Fiore a significant funding, to be worth on the Fund for development and cohesion, intended for the municipal library.
The mayor announces it Rosaria Succurrowhich underlines the importance of the investment to continue the city’s cultural growth path.
“We will use these new resources – says the mayor – to further enhance our library, improve the services offered, continue in digitization and strengthen the role of this place of culture and active participation”.
The municipal administration led by Rosaria Succurro has long started a Large redevelopment of the Civic Library: has expanded its book heritage and has created spaces dedicated to the little ones. Inside the structure, in collaboration with the UNESCO club of San Giovanni in Fiore, the permanent exhibition “Mattmark, remember to remember”, dedicated to the tragedy of August 30, 1965, in which seven Sangiovannese workers who emigrated to Switzerland: Giuseppe Audia, Gaetano Cosentino, Fedele and Francesco Laratta, Bernardo Loria, Antonio Tentico and Salvatore, was also set up.
«We have returned dignity and centrality – continues Succurro – to a symbolic place of our community. Our library is an instrument of awareness and social justice, in which memory is cultivated and conscientious and civil strength is sown ».
The Municipality has also obtained a loan linked to a public call for the reduction of architectural barriers, with the aim of making the library more and more accessible and inclusive.
“We continue to work on culture and culture, which – concludes the mayor – gives freedom, consciousness, development, justice and social change. This is the direction of our daily commitment ».
