Double road homicide: a conviction and an indictment. This is what the judge of the Court of Lamezia Terme decided against two young people (Gregorio Sgrò, 21 years old, resident in Switzerland, and Raffaele Mattia Chimirri, 25 years old, also resident in Switzerland) involved in the road accident which occurred on the night of 23 December 2024 in San Pietro a Maida, in which Maria Sonetto, 17 years old, and Anna Pileggi, 18 years old, lost their lives.
For the 25-year-old (defended by the lawyer Salvatore Cerra) who had chosen the abbreviated trial, the Prosecutor had asked for a 6-year prison sentence, while the Gup sentenced him to 3 years. For the 21-year-old who was driving the car, the defenders Antonio Larussa and Vanessa Raso asked not to prosecute, but the judge instead sent him to trial, setting the hearing before the Court for next November. Both defendants must answer for the crime of double road homicide: the 21-year-old as the driver of the vehicle, while the 25-year-old, owner of the car and passenger at the time of the accident, is called to answer pursuant to Article 113 of the Criminal Code, which regulates negligent cooperation, for having allowed his friend to start driving. According to the prosecution, the driver was under the influence of alcohol and, moreover, his driving license had already been revoked.
