Dramatic road accident not far from San Carlo, a hilly hamlet in the municipality of Condofuri. The one who lost his life was Domenico Petrulli, 17 years old, a fourth year student at the “Familiari” commercial technician in Melito. The boy died in the violent collision between an old model Panda and the scooter he was driving, which occurred on the road leading to Santa Lucia, a short distance from the municipal cemetery. It is a suburban area. The accident that occurred yesterday afternoon is being investigated by the police of the local station, whose switchboard received the report of the incident.

Once on site the military immediately realized that the consequences of the accident were very serious. The scene that materialized before their eyes was horrifying, with the scooter heavily damaged and, lying on the ground, the boy who had suffered the worst and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, the arrival of help confirmed the seriousness of what had happened. For the unfortunate student, in fact, there was nothing that could be done. The news of his death went around the country in a flash, generating a climate of widespread disbelief. At the scene of the tragic accident there were scenes of desperation, with Domenico’s relatives and friends devastated by despair.

At first the military tried to reconstruct the accident, attempting to sequence the different phases exactly. Nothing has been leaked regarding the work they are carrying out with absolute confidentiality. It is therefore superfluous to hypothesize the ways that led to the fatal collision: the word belongs to the investigators, after the necessary investigations and listening to the driver of the car involved.
The fatal accident yesterday afternoon further extended the list of victims of accidents recorded on the municipal roads of Condofuri, which are added to those who fell along State Road 106. A long and sad rosary of broken lives, a painful string of crosses planted on the asphalt, a tribute of blood that does not stop. Where possible, this time the backlash was decidedly strong because the boy was known, appreciated and well-liked in the town. For this reason, completely inevitably, the discussion on road safety, which in these parts is decidedly inadequate, will resume with further vigor.
