“The inauguration this morning of the Chiappetta-Stancati Neighborhood Library in Corso Garibaldi in Cosenza Vecchia is a new important act that we have accomplished for the construction of an ecosystem favorable to the spread of reading. It is another commitment kept”. This was stated by Mayor Franz Caruso following the official presentation of the Chiappetta-Stancati Neighborhood Library, held this morning at the operational headquarters of the Insieme Odv Association, which was attended by, in addition to the president Antonio Chiappetta and the volunteer professor Roberto Stancati, promoters of the initiative, also the councilor delegated to Culture, Antonietta Cozza, the president of the Culture Commission, Mimmo Frammartino, with the members of the commission itself, and the councilor Alessandra Bresciani.
“I believe it is a true social duty to increase every form of support for reading activities – continues Franz Caruso – a driving force of knowledge and training capable of promoting listening, critical thinking, sharing and exchange of knowledge. It is no coincidence that we participated in the “Città che legge” project promoted and curated by the Center for Books and Reading (Cepell) of the Ministry of Culture, activating the “Local Pact for Reading of Intermunicipal Value” also signed by the Municipalities of Marano Principato, Mendicino and Torano Castello, through which, thanks to the numerous initiatives planned, it was possible to involve a wide range of interlocutors ranging from libraries to schools, from bookstores to publishers, from authors to readers and all those involved in reading projects. An action carried out that, with the registration in the “Pacts for Reading” database, allowed the city of Cosenza to obtain the qualification of “Città che legge” for the two-year period 2022-2023″.
“Today, the first Neighborhood Library that we inaugurated – concludes Franz Caruso – is a new important milestone achieved following the important collaboration established with the Insieme ODV association, which I thank together with Dr. Marilena Cerzoso who was generous with her support and the entire Culture Commission that followed the initiative with my delegated councilor”.
During the presentation meeting of the Chiappetta-Stancati Neighborhood Library, the novelty that it represents, the first of its kind, was underlined, and the innovative relationship between volunteers and municipal institutions established in the city with the mayorship of Franz Caruso was highlighted. “The opening of the historic center to the citizens – it was stated during the presentation – and the attempt to promote integration with the “new citizens” immigrants of Cosenza, will characterize the action of the Library, which proposes itself as an element of propulsion and development of “free thought” in illustrating the tradition of the city of Telesio”.
