It is a fertile time for the Sicilian master Antonio Vastamusician, composer, researcher and multi-instrumentalist, who grafts research in the field of world music onto classical training and who, recently, oversaw the artistic production of Mario Incudine’s latest successful album “The sense of measure” published by Sony and, again with the Sicilian artist, he performed in the United States, representing Sicily, two concerts, in Boston and at Columbus Day in New York (where the Sicilian Region was also present). And just in these days, October 17th, it was Luca Barbareschi’s film in competition presented its absolute preview at the Rome Film Festival “Paradise for sale” of which Vasta composed the soundtrack, signed some songs alone and others with the Caltagirone musician Kaballà (Peppe Rinaldi), took care of the arrangements, the artistic production and played the piano and accordion. The film “speaks” Sicilian, in fact, in addition to being set entirely on the island of Filicudi, it has a cast with many Sicilian actors such as Donatella Finocchiaro, Domenico Centamore, Lollo Franco, Stefania Brandenburgo, Ludovico Caldarera, the young Francesco Giulio Cerilli and many islanders which cover small parts. In the film, the Aeolian island, which has the fictional name Fenicusa, to which the director is very attached and of which he is an honorary citizen, enters forcefully with its landscapes and the heritage of post-war stories and legends. “It was a happy and unexpected adventure – Antonio Vasta tells us – following Kaballà’s suggestion, I found myself involved in this beautiful project. The director, in addition to thinking of repertoire music, wanted a soundtrack of a non-folk, authentic Sicily, created by Sicilians who told its soul. I got to work and created the sounds desired by Barbareschi, an attentive and lucid director, who made me enter into the feeling of the story together with the extraordinary editor Karolina Maciejewska.” The musician from Barcelona, who graduated with top marks and honors in piano at the “Bellini” Conservatory in Palermo, attended masterclasses with Dado Moroni and Stefano Bollani. For over 15 years he has been carrying out an intense concert activity around the world, for the theater as a musician, arranger and co-author of the music together with Mario Incudine ( “The Crazy Pain of Love” by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco and “Bluebeard”, ” Sicilian castling”, “Giuditta and the Monsù” by Costanza Di Quattro). Maestro Vasta played in “Il Casellante” by Andrea Camilleri, composed the music for several documentaries and films with Kaballà (Io Spero Paradiso and Nuovo Cinema para-virus by Daniele Pignatelli) and played in “Ci takes a physicist” by Alessandro Tamburini, a docufilm on Francesco De Gregori, “Cuntami” by Giovanna Taviani. He also played and arranged the arrangements for films such as “La Terra senza” by Moni Ovadia and “Famosa” by Alessandra Mortelliti, the debut work of Andrea Camilleri’s niece. He has also collaborated with artists such as: Francesco De Gregori, Lucio Dalla, Simone Cristicchi, Ron, Peppe Servillo, Fausto Mesolella, Tosca, Kaballà, Antonella Ruggiero, Paola Turci, Mario Venuti. His recordings are numerous.
