In light of the tragic conflicts in progress in various parts of the world, the Interreligious dialogue group for peace of Cosenza He has released a statement to recall the attention of civil society and institutions on the urgency of promoting the culture of peace. A clear position, which invites everyone – believers and men of good will – not to remain indifferent to the violence that affects innocent victims.
“The tragic events of these days, with many wars taking place in the world, question all believers and men of good will,” reads the text. «We cannot remain indifferent in the face of so much violence, upon the death of innocent (children, women, elderly) sacrificed in the name of the reason of state. War is never the solution to conflicts and with the war no one can be said to be the winner ».
The group also recalls the words of Pope Franciswho a few days ago reiterated: “We must disarm the words, to disarm the minds and disarm the earth”, an appeal that is ideally linked to that launched by John Paul II In the famous interreligious meeting for peace held in Assisi on 27 October 1986.
The press release expresses concern for the climate of violence, including verbal, which is recorded in relations between the rulers and, more and more often, also in daily life: “It feeds the opposition and pushes to seek an enemy to be opposed at all costs”.
Hence the invitation to a change of mentality: «A change of mentality is needed by the powerful who believe only in the reason for the strength but also by each of us to promote paths of awareness and solidarity. Making peace means recognizing the dignity of the other as a person and not an enemy to be annihilated or submitted ».
In taking note of the severity of the current world crisis, the group hopes that “international bodies and civil and religious authorities take on concrete initiatives to encourage dialogue between nations and peoples in war, so that a fair and shared peace is reached”. And he concludes: “It is necessary that each of us promotes concrete initiatives and actions so that even in our reality we can affirm the culture of education to dialogue and peace”.
