During the last Metropolitan Council of Reggio Calabria, the agreement scheme for the management and valorisation of the Museum and Archaeological Park of ancient Medma, an important historical site located in the territory of the Municipality of Rosarno, was approved.
The agreement, the result of a shared path between the Metropolitan City, the Calabria Regional Museums Directorate of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Rosarno, aims to guarantee a unitary and coordinated management of the archaeological complex, with the aim of increasing public use and strengthening the strategic role in the Calabrian cultural panorama.
A heritage of historical and archaeological value
The Archaeological Park of ancient Medma, covering approximately 13 hectares, represents a resource of great historical value, characterized by the presence of important testimonies of the Magna Graecia civilisation, including the sacred areas of Calderazzo and Sant’Anna. The site also includes the Museum, already included in the Museum Directorate system, which takes care of its management and protection.
Objectives and forms of institutional collaboration
The agreement approved by the Palazzo Alvaro hall provides for forms of institutional collaboration aimed at the conservation, study and valorisation of the archaeological heritage, through the networking of skills, resources and operational tools. In particular, the agreement aims to improve services for the public, promote cultural and scientific activities and encourage wider accessibility of the site.
Impact on the territory and local development
The initiative is part of the cultural development policies of the Metropolitan City which recognizes the valorisation of the historical and archaeological heritage as a fundamental driving force for the socio-economic growth of the territory, with positive consequences in terms of tourist attractiveness, cultural promotion and local development.
