Judge Walter Turturici has set the preliminary hearing for January 13th at 10 am, after the request, in recent days and which we learned today, from the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office to commit the Tourism Councilor Elvira Amata (FdI) of the Sicilian Region and the entrepreneur Marcella Cannariato to trial for corruption. The investigation is coordinated by prosecutors Felice De Benedittis and Andrea Fusco.
According to the accusation, Amata was promised and given by Caterina Cannariato (legal representative of A&C Broker Srl) the benefits consisting «in the employment (from 26 September 2023 to March 2024) of her nephew Tommaso Paolucci in AC Broker Srl and in the payment of the expenses for the accommodation of the latter in the accommodation facility called «Leone Suite B&B» in Palermo in the period September 2023-March 2024 (for a total of 4,590.90 euros plus VAT)”.
This in exchange for the councilor’s decree with which Amata «identified the event promoted by the Marisa Bellisario foundation (of which Cannariato was the regional representative) called «XXIII ed. Women, Economy and Power”, for the purposes of granting a public loan of 30,000 euros”.
La Vardera: “Now Schifani remove Amata”
«Schifani should have a leap of dignity, remove councilor Amata immediately and resign after the enormous damage he has done in the last three years. Don’t use double standards: just as you did with the DC councilors, who were incredibly uninvestigated, do the same with Amata.” This was stated by the regional deputy and leader of Controcorrente, Ismaele La Vardera, after the request for indictment by the Palermo prosecutor’s office for the regional councilor for Tourism of FdI, Elvira Amata, accused of corruption. «A government – he adds – that falls further and further down: yesterday Cuffaro and the DC, today the request for indictment for the Tourism councilor. Schifani has chosen a government team that is leaking from all sides and now he has no choice but to remove her too. I wonder how a regional president persists in continuing to govern in these conditions; with a request for indictment for corruption for Amata who with his department has the discretion to allocate funds, is pure madness”.
