The soldiers of the Gimigliano station arrested an eighty -year -old from the place for the crime of aggravated forest fire, as ordered by the order of application of the precautionary measure issued by the Court of Catanzaro.
The measure arises from the investigations carried out following the very serious fire of last July 20, which developed in the woods of the Cavorà area of Gimigliano. At the end of the shutdown operations, which took almost two days of time from specialized structures of the firefighters and civil protection, over 37,000 square meters of forest areas had been destroyed. The flames had also arrived near the elementary school and other homes, but were contained in time. Immediately afterwards the investigations by the carabinieri were started, who sifted the area and acquired video surveillance images in search of useful elements to trace the causes of the fire.
Precisely from the vision of one of the videos it was possible to identify the arsonist. The man, a pensioner residing in that municipality, was resumed while setting the fire, and subsequently identified by the military. At the outcome of the investigations, it was reported for the hypothesis of forest fire and, at the disposal of the judicial authority, subjected to the measure of house arrest. At the outcome of the preventive interrogation, the judge applied the precautionary measure of house arrest. The criminal proceeding is still pending in the preliminary investigation phase.
