The Messina city council decides to take its time on the three projects to create over 1,800 student accommodations in the city. After a long discussion, from which several doubts emerged regarding the three projects of the company Zanklon Capital srl of the entrepreneur Natale Giostra, the Chamber decided (with 11 votes in favor and 16 abstentions) to approve the proposal of Pippo Trischitta, majority group leader, to refer the three resolutions to the commission for further in-depth analysis.

The issues to be resolved concern above all the increases in volume compared to the master plan, foreseen in the three areas (viale Regina Margherita, near the Archimede high school, via Catania in the center and Minissale in the southern area), the issue of public interest, also linked to the fees foreseen for students (650 euros on average), considered too high, and other aspects relating to the tender from the Ministry, which financed the projects with the Pnrr. However, the general secretary Rossana Carrubba recommended that “the return to the commission be expedited, the in-depth analysis is dutiful and legitimate, but cannot take biblical times. We need a quick and certain response from the public administration”.
