Women and territory protagonists of the seventeenth edition of the Amore & Rabbia Festival which turns thirty this year. «An important achievement», underlined by the “La Ginestra” association which from 1996 to today has curated the 17 events of the event which from 12 to 15 August transforms the historic center of the small Presila town of Verzino into an agora of music and culture with concerts, debates, exhibitions and excursions to discover the hidden beauties of the Alto Crotone area.
And so it will be this time too with a guided visit to the ancient site of the rock caves (candidate for the Fai heartfelt places competition for 2026), scheduled for 10am on Wednesday 12th, in collaboration with the “Friends of the Rock Caves” Committee and the Fai delegation. Spotlights still focused on the beauties of the area and specifically on the underground karst cavities on Thursday at 7pm with the meeting “Listening to the dark” which will be held in the atrium of the ducal palace, seat of the Town Hall in collaboration with the local speleological group “Le Grave” and the Italian Speleological Society.
Music with exclusively female voices this year at the concerts of the event with the program which includes the performance of the Tarab Ensemble (a World Music trio composed of Federica Greco, Alessandra Colucci and Serena Lionetto) in the early evening of Wednesday starting at 9pm, followed by Maria Mazzotta, a talented exponent of Salento popular music.
On Thursday 13th (again at 9pm), the Italian-Palestinian artist Tara will be on stage, who combines the tradition of Arab music with modernity, and then Dadà, defined as “one of the most original and magnetic voices of the contemporary musical panorama”. On Friday 14th, the stage set up in Piazza Campo will host the performance of “Le Hi-Shine”, one of the most original and interesting realities of the Italian reggae scene. It ends on Saturday 15th with the final concert by Ylenia Cuzzolino, Calabrian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from San Sosti.
«Having entrusted the stage only to female voices on the 30th anniversary of the Festival – comments the president of “La Ginestra” Pino Urso – is not a symbolic gesture. It is a way to recognize the fundamental contribution that women have given, and continue to give, to the construction of the musical and cultural traditions of the Mediterranean and to the great processes of social, civil and political change”.
«A reflection – he adds – which this year takes on an even deeper meaning, on the eightieth anniversary of the first women’s vote and the election of the Constituent Mothers, protagonists of one of the most important seasons for our democracy».
Within the “four days” sponsored by the Municipality of Verzino, there will also be space for a photographic exhibition and poetry with the presentation of the book “Controluce” by Maria Giovanna Manente at 6pm on Friday in the atrium of the Town Hall. Finally, Janneke van der Putten’s workshop “Voice as body – in the resonances of caves” scheduled for Saturday 15th in the rock site on the slopes of the village, is original and interesting.
