Three Egyptians stopped for the transport of 187 migrants between Reggio Calabria and Roccella

The mobile team of REggio Calabria and the naval operational section of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria, under the coordination of the local Prosecutor directed by dr. Giuseppe Lombardo, have identified and stopped three alleged smugglers, all seriously suspended – at the state of the criminal proceeding currently in the preliminary investigation phase – of having conducted a Fishing loaded with migrants, Manti landed in the ports of Reggio Calabria and Roccella Ionica on June 8th last. These are three Egyptian citizens, investigated for the crime of aggravated aiding and out of the illegal immigration. The facts refer to the rescue in international waters of 187 migrants, operated by the Coast Guard, with the intervention of two naval units. After the rescue operations, migrants have been landed between the port of Reggio Calabria and that of Roccella Ionica. The investigation activities conducted from the first hours following landing, mainly carried out through the acquisition of the declarations collected by migrants, have made it possible to reconstruct the dynamics of irregular traffic and to reach the identification of the subjects involved in the management of the boat used to reach the territory of the Italian State illegally, through the central Mediterranean route. In light of the elements acquired, the three subjects were subjected to the detention of suspect of crime and conducted at the Reggio Calabria district house, available to the judicial authority. The detention measures were subsequently validated, with the simultaneous issue for all of the orders of pre -trial detention in prison.
