The Oratory San Giovanni Paolo II, in the Fablelloni hamlet of Cessaniti, is preparing to welcome a series of summer events dedicated to music and, in particular, to the fascinating universe of percussion. The project, entitled “I present to you my musical instruments”, will offer an experiential path that combines live performances and popular moments, designed to involve people of all ages: adults, children, enthusiasts, students and simple curious.

The protagonist of the meetings will be the musician Valerio Colaci, who will guide the public to discover instruments, sounds and musical traditions from different cultures. Each meeting, with free admission, will be held at 6 pm, and will offer the opportunity to listen, observe closely and even interact with the protagonists of the evening.

Here is the complete calendar of events:

Sunday 3 August – Orchestra tools: a journey through the percussion of the classical and symphonic tradition.

Thursday 7 August – Ethnic percussion of the world: exploration of the sounds of different continents, between rhythm and culture.

Tuesday 12 August – Modern Drumset: Focus on the battery and its role in contemporary music.

To enrich the evenings there will also be the participation of Domenico Pititto, who will help make the musical experience even more complete and engaging.

The initiative was born with the intention of combining entertainment and training, allowing everyone to approach the music and the vibrant universe of percussion directly and excitingly.

How the idea of Maestro Valerio Colaci was born

The project “I present to you my musical instruments”, of which the message is very simple but powerful, arises from the desire to intrigue anyone who is “foreign” to music and make a small contribution also to the neophytes of the sector through my experience as a musician. Also clarify between those who know me about the various roles that I cover when I am called to work in the orchestra or in other situations.
Having such a varied art in hand, that it is the infinite world of percussion tools, I feel responsible to share and make known the contexts, stories and languages of what could be a drum, a djembè, a maracas or a triangle.
I will briefly illustrate the historical evolution and the materials of the instrument, accompanying the explanation with the execution of the main rhythm and some sound effects, we will talk about the reason why a battery mounted on a stage always captures our attention, of the impact that music has on the youngest and natural instinct, typical of childhood, of wanting to play a drum.
All this thanks to those who supported and believed in the project, thanks to Domenico Pititto who did not hesitate to “accompany me” and Don Salvatore Danilo D’Alessandro who immediately married this initiative of mine by helping me every time I asked for it.
