An elderly farmer lost his life and two other workers were seriously injured in a work accident that occurred this morning in the countryside of the Crotone hinterland. The 78-year-old victim, originally from Pallagorio, was driving a tractor with which he was taking some workers of Pakistani origin to an agricultural land to harvest olives.

The man, after having traveled along the provincial road between the municipality of Casabona and the hamlet of Zinga, was about to enter his agricultural land whose access road apparently suddenly gave way. The elderly man lost control of the tractor which fell to the bottom of a ravine for over 100 metres. The one who raised the alarm and alerted the emergency services was another labourer, also of Pakistani origin, who was already working in the olive grove. The elderly farmer died instantly, while the three Pakistanis who were traveling with him were dragged along with the tractor into an impervious and steep area. The conditions of two labourers, trapped under the tractor, are said to be very serious. Rescue and rescue operations are still ongoing, made more difficult by the difficult terrain. Two air ambulances arrived on site, coming from Cirò Marina and Lamezia, while the fire brigade helicopter also arrived.
